Artful Friday – Self Portraits

I love self portraits.

I didn’t always love when I had to make them while earning my degree. Every term in photography and painting and drawing, we had a self portrait sometime in the semester.
They grew on me and I began to appreciate them.

I appreciate them even more in my students.

We looked in the mirror and discussed proportion. For example, did you know your eyes are one eye length apart? If you use your finger and trace from the corner of your eye to the side of your face , you find a good start to place your ears.

Question of the day: What is your favorite body part?”

Materials Used: Pencils, Oil pastels, and mirrors

Most of my students parents tell me they frame their children’s self portraits, they are just too fantastic not too.

Have a great weekend.

I love all my kids' self portraits – they get a special place in our house.

These are gorgeous. I love when my girls do group family portraits. I have a special favourite one that Phoebe did which included me when I was pregnant with Ruby. It's perfection and I'll treasure it forever 🙂

i like eyes. but for some odd reasons i watch people's mouths when they talk, so that's how i identify people and emotions a lot. weird, i know.
